OBITUARIES 2006

TONY FALCON

It is with sad regret that I have to inform the NCDS of the passing of my Husband Tony. Tony was a member of the Sheffield Phoenix Branch for many years, he became a Chairman of the Branch for a couple of Years and was later elected as Vice Chairman of the Yorkshire Region.

At that time John Rush was the Chairman, Mick Plant was the Treasurer and Pat Webster was the Regions Secretary; all of whom Tony respected greatly, they were a good team and they all worked well together. I think that most of you within the Yorkshire Region will remember Tony for his different ties and his unusual shirts, especially at National Dances. Pat Webster used to hold her breath when he took off his jacket not quite knowing what to expect next.

Tony always believed that if you had a good working Committee then you would have a contented Branch, but at the 'helm' was always the Regional Committee to hold it all together and keep the wagon an the rails. But as always, you only get out of the NCDS what you are prepared to put in.

Best wishes to you all,
Janet Falcon.

On a sad note we have to record the death of one of our committee members, Ron Golding, who had been a member of the club for some nine years.

Ron, aged 78, as well as carrying out numerous duties for the D&S, also found time to be caretaker of the Constitutional Club where our meetings are held. Obviously this was of invaluable help to our club, as on our Wednesday and Saturday night function evenings the tables, chairs, disco equipment etc. was always in place on our arrival.

He was a valuable member of our committee and sadly, with the loss of Ron, and our Vice Chairman, Tim, earlier this year, we find our committee sadly depleted by two males, not only members but dear friends.

We would like to stress that although of age, like many of us, in finding a replacement for Ron both the D&S and the Constitutional Club feel that they would be looking for two people, as Ron's work rate behind the scenes was unbelievable. John, in conclusion, we in the deep South would like to wish you and your family, together with your branch members a prosperous New Year, and once again we all thank you for the sterling work that you are doing on behalf of the National Organisation.
